How To Become A Better Writer

Writing is one of the most essential skills we must learn in today's society. It is important to success in school. It is important to success in the work force. Writing is important to participate in the new global economy. Not only is writing important for communicating with others, it is also an important part of learning and problem solving. While most people fully recognize just how important writing is, many still do not fully understand how to develop this important life skill. There are four important rules to remember when working to develop your writing skills.

Writing cannot be learned in a short time. You can take a writing class that can help you improve your skill but drastic improvements to your writing skill is really the task of a lifetime. Writing is complex and challenging and takes time to learn then even more time to fully develop your potential as a writer.

Writing cannot be learned from a book or a lecture. A good writing teacher is more of a coach than a lecturer because truly the only way to improve your writing is through practice. Writing is a skill that requires you to develop your muscle memory just as other arts, such as music and dance, as well as sports. You must continually practice a dance step or football play before it becomes second nature. The same principle holds true of writing.

Writing is a process. Writing must proceed through a series of steps: invention, drafting, revising and editing. While the process is universal, each individual writer has a unique process that can be adapted to changing writing tasks. The writing process is recursive and writers may find themselves moving back and forth between steps on some writing projects.

Writing is socially situated. Unless writing strictly for yourself, it is important to spend time contemplating the social situation of your writing task. Who is your audience? What type of language use does that audience expect? Should the writing be formal or casual? What knowledge can you expect the audience to possess and what knowledge does the audience expect of you as the writer?

Anyone can be a writer. Writing well is not a gift from the gods or an inherited trait. It is a skill that can be learned and refined through practice. It takes time and effort to learn to write well, just as anything worth doing does, but the rewards for your effort can be infinite.

Study the Great Writers and the Craft of Writing

In 1996 I was doing a hip hop compilation CD called The Collective for my production company, SCR Entertainment
. There were 11 MCs and because I value the craft of lyric writing, during the album pre-production stage I decided that we, as a collective, would get together and critique the lyrical content of each song submitted for album consideration. I wanted to ensure quality in content.

Now, two of the MCs had crazy flow but their lyrics fell short of the established standard so after repeated failed attempts to improve their writing I put a spotlight on the primary issue; limited vocabulary. I asked them each a single question which I ask of you as well: as quickly as you can without taking time to think, how many rhymes can you come up with for the word “you”? Try it. Don’t read further until you try this.

How many did you come up with? Neither of the MCs could do more than ten. Now pick up a rhyming dictionary and you will find more than 100 words that rhyme with “you”. Many of these words would inspire whole new ideas, and many of those ideas could be the difference between a great song and just another mediocre one.

Many of the greatest songs were crafted, not just written. Crafting great ideas takes time and effort in thought. As a writer, your greatest asset is a command of words. Your tools as a writer should include a rhyming dictionary, a thesaurus, and works of other writers you admire.

Reading a variety of written works will also inspire ideas. One of the first rhyme writers I loved back in the day was Rakim (very old school.) For R&B it was the writing teams of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and LA & Babyface who were consistently crafting hit after hit through the 1980’s and ‘90’s.

Even if you don’t want to be a great lyric writer, (really!?!?) your writing will improve when you write often and study great writers and the craft of writing. Study the great writers and the craft of writing!

Article Marketing - Writing Articles To Build Your Online Business

Online writing includes articles, blog posts, eBooks, short reports, and any other writing that is written and read exclusively on the internet. Writing articles is the foundation for all of this writing, and it is imperative that you get started with article writing as soon as possible. There are many reasons for this, and here are just a few.

Writing a three hundred word article every day will get you into the habit of writing. I had not written for more than twenty years when I first started writing articles a year and a half ago. During the first 30 days or so it was difficult to make myself write. At some point it just became part of my daily schedule, and I have been writing ever since. I currently have about 775 articles published on the internet, and you can do the same thing if you write every day.

You can repurpose your articles into other types of online writing. I have written blog posts based on my articles, including more information in certain areas and eliminating some of the content in others. I have also combined several articles into short reports that I have sold and given away, as well as used my articles as the basis for two eBooks. Because you can write an article in less than an hour, they are the perfect vehicle to create other types of writing. You can even use an article as the content for your autoresponder messages.

Start writing articles on topics you are knowledgeable about. In the beginning you will just want to get your information out, so do not worry too much about the style or format of your writing. As you become more proficient in your writing ability you will begin to find your voice and the words will just flow naturally. This will also help you with search engine optimization because you will be writing the way you would explain your topic to someone you were speaking to, and this will show in your writing.

Once you submit your articles to the article directories the information will circulate around the world. Make sure you lead people back to your website or blog, and have a way for them to opt-in to receive more information from you in the future. You will trade them a short or special report in exchange for their email address, and this free giveaway will also come from your articles.

I encourage you to learn how to write and submit your articles in a way that will maximize your credibility and visibility on the internet, and you will be able to build your online business in just a few months.

Why Writing Skill is Important?

Why writing is so important? What is need of writing? etc. There are so many questions come in mind of this type, but the answers of all these questions are more or less the same.

There are only two ways (i.e. by speaking and writing) for conveying oneself, or in other words, disclosing one's needs and feelings not only with others but also with oneself as well need a medium and it is only possible through speaking and writing. Therefore, there is too much importance of these skills and requisite for a meaningful life. Until and unless, we have command over the language, we cannot express our feelings and needs. However, if we have better skill, we can articulate ourselves in more better ways. Both writing as well as speaking skill is an art, much better you know .... much better you express.

How to learn this art is really an uphill task. Nowadays, there are ample of couching institutes and courses, apart from this there are also plenty of articles available on-line and off-line; some software also have been invented to sort out this problem. But my this article is a bit different from them. However, all these equipments of writing skill talk alike. Though my this article, of course, would be giving similar tips but with different techniques.

There are two kinds of abilities - the first one is natural ability i.e. Flair and it is in born (innate). Well, if we take the example of any artist of this world we find numerous artists, who never took any training and classes for their artistic skill and their works are much more better than the person who performed same exercise after undergoing training. And second one is artificial ability and it comes through hard labour. Therefore, all those equipments available in the market are for second category people. But now the point is this that a single technique cannot be applicable for all because of individual differences. Might be, someone acquired the skill after going through these equipments but someone not. Therefore, my motto behind this article is only to give some tips of this kind .... which is universally applicable. Because what I think, ability and skill cannot be acquired by any person at any cost...... if a person has means has and if a person has not means has not. It is like parts of body, if a person born with all parts of his body means he has everything such as two legs, two hands, ten fingers, ten toes etc and if a person born with only one leg/hand or undeveloped leg/hand etc – it cannot be developed by any means and if developed i.e. only for show not for any work. Well, there is no matter of disappointment because unlike body parts all children born with all skills. The difference is only of exposure. If someone get the exposure of painting and also his/her interest matches with it, he/she becomes painter likewise. Therefore, the interest and exposure both of them required. Although, I wrote above that everyone has skills of everything but everyone cannot have interest in everything, so its depends upon interest of the concerning person.

Now, coming to the point, I begin to talk about how to develop writing skill. Since, writing skill is a very tedious job, so the first thing which is required to develop interest i.e. to start writing on small topics over which one has interest and can also write a personal dairy without taking care of any errors whether spelling or grammar, I think, it is the best way to develop interest and skill provided, this behaviour should be in continuity. Once interest developed, well, there is no need of any extra effort , but of course, to take care of some points (given below) just like a routine work:

Think over the topic on which you are going to write and then scribble the points like concept, definition, aim, etc

Structure all those points in order

Draft few sentences for those points

Expand all noted points and

Finally, edit it.

People at large suggest not to use lengthy sentences, difficult words, compound sentences etc, but sincerely take care of it, because on conditions people hardly learn of acquiring any skill. However, what I think, to use difficult words and compound sentences is most of the time (not sometimes) justifiable. You know, by always using small sentences and easy words, I noticed following problems viz..

Small sentences deprived of linkages, ultimately, there is no rapport among the sentences. Consequently, readers get confused.

Some words so called difficult words, which are actually terms and its use not only shorten the length of sentence but also explain exactly what writer want to convey. And

Lastly, it gives wide scope to explain in many ways but simple words and sentences circumscribe the limit and most of the time writers feel unable to express their feelings.

Therefore, there is no problem in using terms and compound sentences provided, it would not be bombastic words and pompous language. And it is judged only by writer. There are plenty of examples on this account whose writings are world proven difficult nevertheless, people read them. For example, India's Supreme Court justice V.R. Krishana Iyar use to write very much difficult words and sentences nevertheless, his judgment, books, and articles people read very interestingly and there are numerous examples on this account in the every corner of this world.

However, while writing you should must take care of...

What are you writing

For whom you are writing and

The purpose of writing

Accordingly, fabricate the words, sentences, and content of article; similarly, as a person dress oneself differently at different occasion, such as, for office, for party, for traveling etc.

This is all about the writing skills and techniques, hence, there is no course, institutes, and softwares for developing the writing skill; it is already present in every person's body and only need to expose it through ones' own interest and techniques. Moreover, there is no binding of using only particular words and sentences. Start writing and write the thing you want and the way you want; in the course of time, you yourself would come to know, how to entice your writing skill in order to enthrall more readers.
